But life hasn't been so kind to Edinburgh-based McGuire since then: his wife has died and he's lost his job. When daughter Anne (played by Clare Grogan, former singer with Altered Images and an actress in the film Gregory's Girl) announces she's emigrating to Australia with McGuire's beloved grandson Billy (Ryan Quinn, right), he's devastated. Memories are all that he has left, particularly of former love Betsy Hall (played by country-and-western singer Lynn / Never Promised You a Rose Garden Anderson), whom he metat the peak of his singing career. Now a star, she comes to Scotland on tour and McGuire makes a last ditch attempt to see her
