Nikon AF-S 80-200 f/2.8 with possibly failing focus motor

Beschreibung
Nikon AF-S 80-200 f/2.8 lens.
Focus motor is a bit hit and miss on my body (D5100).
It seems good with a fully charged battery but quickly stops autofocussing.
From what I have read, these early AF-S motors are not as reliable as later ones and spare parts have dried up for them. It may work well with a body with a larger battery or a grip, but I would rather you assume that the motor is dying and buy it with a view to repairing it or using it as a high quality manual focus lens.
Optically it is very good. When I bought it it was noted to have a tiny scratch on the front element but it is difficult to spot and certainly does not affect image quality, which is, as you will know if you read about this lens, astounding.
It has lead a hard life before it got to me, with many marks and scratches on the outside (see photos for the worst). But it is built like a tank and will last forever I suspect. You will notice that the distance scale marks are worn too with the 80mm mark almost gone.
It comes with front cap (non-standard), rear cap, non Nikon hood which is designed for the lens and fits well, non-Nikon tripod collar which is likewise designed for the lens and is sturdy and well made.
If you want a high quality manual focus zoom lens, this could be an ideal purchase for you. If you know more about spares availability than I have been able to find or if the problems I have could be down to the lowly body I use it on then it could be a real bargain.
